Earlier Wednesday, Vijay Mallya the former Kingfisher boss had to appear in front of the Westminster Magistrates’ Court in his extradition case. He was asked by reporters that whether he was ‘tipped off’ to leave the country.
To answer their questions, Vijay Mallya said, “I left because I had a scheduled meeting in Geneva. I met the finance minister before I left, repeated my offer to settle with the banks. That is the truth.”
He did not the name the minister. The Finance Minister of India was shocked to hear this and he said, Since 2014, I have never given him (Mallya) any appointment to meet me and the question of his having met me does not arise.”
